2023 VIC & TAS Awards
Celebrating Educational Design at the 2023 VIC & TAS Chapter Awards
The prestigious 2023 Victorian and Tasmanian Chapter Awards took place on Thursday 9 November 2023, at the vibrant Craft & Co in Collingwood.
Our Awards are dedicated to honoring outstanding learning spaces that embrace innovative architectural concepts aligned with educational philosophies. The entries for this year’s awards showcased a diverse array of projects, spanning different budgets, contexts and typologies.
It was an evening of celebration and recognition, where the LEA community come together to applaud the remarkable achievements in learning environments and to celebrate contemporary and innovative design as we celebrated entrants in all six categories.
The overall Winner of the Victorian & Tasmanian Chapter Awards was Avila College – Ballygriffin Senior Learning Centre, designed by Law Architects.
In their citation, Avila College stated “Ballygriffin expresses a new chapter for Avila. One infused with a clear expression of Catholic identity, stewardship for the environment and a belief that learning is a journey. The intelligent spatial configuration has supported independence, encouraging young women to develop their capabilities in leading, collaborating and serving their community. Ballygriffin Learning Centre is a testament to the power of place as an enabler of change and the strength of strong partnerships in bringing visions into fruition.”
In their project overview, Law Architects advised that “a lengthy iterative design and briefing process, including student-led design prototypes, has ensured a high degree of ownership and natural connection to place. This critical aspect of process has enabled both staff and students to seamlessly transition into their new facility, while intuitively adapting their teaching and learning with ease.”
Congratulations to Avila College – Ballygriffin Senior Learning Centre, and Law Architects.
Congratulations to all of our award winners and commendations! We look forward to your submissions in the 2024 Learning Environments Australasia Design (LEAD) Awards.
