Project Overview
An existing resource – a redundant old library and four adjacent rectangular classrooms were converted into a highly agile learning space suited to a collaborative learning program involving 180 students. Northern Beaches Christian School has been undergoing a process enabling student centred learning across Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4. This has required the creation of a range of open space learning precincts. The Zone project has catered for the largest of these programs – Stage 3.
The design process has addressed some challenges: acoustic improvements, improved ventilation, agile spaces, and spaces to support mobile learning.
Why name it The Zone? NBCS has chosen to move away from using alphanumeric names for each learning space around the School. The Zone captured a sense of centralised collaboration, of teaching and learning occurring in a fun and motivating environment.
