New School 1 – Designing the Future of Education
12 Aug 2025
We are proud to introduce the first instalment of our acclaimed documentary series, entitled New School 1 - If You Could Build a New School, What Would It Look Like?
New School 1 explores the journeys of three pioneering Australian schools as they move beyond traditional, industrial-era education models. At the heart of their vision is a commitment to placing students at the centre of learning, fostering deep inquiry, agency, and authentic engagement.
By showcasing innovative practices and purpose-built learning environments, New School 1 provides a powerful example of how education can be transformed to meet the needs of today’s world. It asks a bold and inspiring question: If you could build a new school, what would it look like?
Featuring presenter Dr Scott Alterator alongside thought leaders including Stephanie McConnell of Lindfield Learning Village, Mary Featherstone, Prof Stephen Heppell, Dr Julia Atkin, Darren McGregor, and Greg Whitby AM, the film serves as a valuable resource for schools, educators, and communities seeking to reimagine the future of learning.
New School 1 premiered at LEA's 21st Annual Regional Conference re:Activate, in Christchurch NZ in May 2023.
