Chapter Awards Refunds, Terms & Conditions

1. 2024 Chapter Awards – Participating Chapters

The following Chapters are running their awards program in 2024:

Please read the following information carefully for instructions regarding each Chapter.

  • Registration & Entry Submission Open: Monday, 15 July 2024
  • Registration and Payment Due: Friday, 30 August 2024, 5pm (AEST)
  • Entry Submission Due: Friday, 6 September 2024 11pm (AEST)
  • Announcement and Presentation Ceremony: To be confirmed by each Chapter


2. Refunds and/or Withdrawal

  1. LEA must be formally notified of your intention to cancel or withdraw your entry/ies via email: awards@learningenvironments.org.au by 5pm (AEST) Friday 30 August 2024.
  2. Projects withdrawn between registration date of 5pm (AEST) Friday 30 August 2024 and submission closing date of 5pm (AWST) Friday 6 September 2024 will receive a 50% refund only.
  3. No refund will be available after the submission closing date of 5pm (AEST) Friday 6 September 2024.
  4. Entries for which no fee/payment has been received by 5pm (AEST) Friday 30 August 2024 will not progress to judging.
  5. To ensure that you receive all communications regarding the awards, please register your project via the LEA Chapter Awards Portal, ensuring the entry has been submitted in the correct Chapter portal and c0mplete your entry submission on the AwardsForce portal.

How to Enter (Step 1): Register & Pay

  1. Register your project via the LEA 2024 Chapter Awards Portal, selecting the correct Chapter.
  2. A fee of $270 AUD + GST per submission for Australian entries, and $250 NZD + GST per submission for New Zealand entries, will be charged. Payment can be made by EFT or credit card (non Australian members please pay by credit card).
  3. One educational facility may be entered in multiple categories. However, one AUD $270+GST fee for Australian entries, and NZD $250 + GST fee for New Zealand entries, for each entry/category the educational facility is entered is payable. Submissions for one educational facility in multiple categories should be tailored to suit each category and respond to the assessment criteria.


4. How to Enter (Step 2): Submitting Your Entry/ies

  1. Enter your project via learningenvironments.awardsplatform.com. Entrants can submit their project/s from Monday, 15 July 2024 until entry submission closes on 11pm, Friday 6 September 2024, 5pm (AEST).
  2. Note: the entry submission portal (AwardsForce portal) is a different website to the LEA Awards Website for registration. Entrants who have not used the AwardsForce portal previously will need to create a new profile/login.


5. Refunds and/or Withdrawal

  1. Entrants must be an LEA member with current membership paid for the 2024/2025 period.
  2. Entrants must register and pay an entry fee for each entry by the required date above.
  3. Projects must have been occupied and in use for at least 6 months and construction completed within the last 3 years.
  4. Projects must be occupied BEFORE 6 MARCH 2024.


6. Award Categories

  1. Category 1: Innovative Education Initiative
    Designed to showcase significant contributions to learning environments by schools, educators, students, designers, community organisations etc. Education Initiatives must have been delivered to students for at least 6 months – that is, since 6 March 2024.
  2. Category 2: New Campus with Educational Facilities
    This category applies to construction of a new school or educational facilities on a new campus. Only one campus can be entered into this category. If you have more than one campus, you will need to choose which campus you wish to enter or enter two separate entries. Entries that feature more than one campus will not qualify for entry.
  3. Category 3: New Building/s or Facilities: Large
    This category applies to a new building or new buildings in an existing school or campus, value over AUD $10 million. *(please see below.)
  4. Category 4: New Building/s or Facilities: Small
    This category applies to a new building or new buildings in an existing school or campus value less than AUD $10 million. *(please see note below.)
  5. Category 5: Modernisation: Large
    Renovation/modernisation projects valued over AUD $5 Million.  Projects need to demonstrate extent of work completed. *(please see below.)
  6. Category 6: Modernisation: Small
    Renovation/modernisation projects valued less than AUD $5 Million. Projects need to demonstrate extent of work completed. *(please see below.)
  7. Category 7: Small Projects Under $2 Million (AU).
    A new building or a renovation, must be a learning environment.
  8. Category 8: Outdoor Learning Area
    Designed to showcase outdoor learning environments or landscapes targeted at improving educational outcomes.
  9. **NEW AWARD** Cultural Engagement Award (**New Zealand Chapter only**)
    The Cultural Engagement Award may be made across all category entries, for a learning space that has embedded cultural, historical or community narratives as a means of cultural inclusion. To be considered for this award entrants should embed responses to the following considerations into the assessment criteria (Part 5 & 6 of the entry). The content might respond to some or all of the following considerations in their Category entry:
    • Evidence of collaboration with tangata whenua and how Te Ao Māori principles have been embedded into the design.
    • Evidence of how the design has embraced cultural stories of place.
    • Evidence that the design responds to the school’s cultural narrative or unique sense of place.
    • How has the project integrated cultural inclusiveness?

Entries will be awarded as winners or commendations in the following categories. The project/s will best demonstrate the comprehensive effectiveness of planning and design as outlined in the Award Assessment Criteria.

 

6. Award Categories – Other Important Information
  1.  * Projects that feature new buildings and renovations must be separated and entered into the relevant category for “new building” OR “renovation/modernisation”. Judges will be asked to disregard renovations in the “new buildings” category and new buildings in the “renovations” category.
  2. Only one educational facility can be entered into each entry.  Any entry featuring more than one facility will be disqualified.
  3.  All projects must have been occupied for at least 6 months before the entry submission date closing (that is: before 6 March 2024) and construction completed within the past 3 years (since 2021) to qualify for entry.
  4. Value of the project is the “Final Contract Sum” excluding GST.

7. Assessment Criteria & Judging

  1. An Award or Commendation for each category may be presented to the entrant/s whose educational facility project best meets the assessment criteria as described on the Chapter Awards Websites.
  2. Judging of these award entries is by at least three experienced industry practitioners appointed by Learning Environments Australasia. The jury reserves the right to award, make commendations or not to make an award or commendations in any of the categories.
  3. All criteria are equally weighted. Succinct answers to the criteria, including bullet points, are encouraged.

  1. We may change the Chapter Awards Refunds Terms & Conditions from time to time.  Any updated versions of the chapter awards refunds terms & conditions will be posted on our website. It is the responsibility of each Awards Purchaser and each Organisation/Company entering the Chapter Awards to review this webpage regularly to review any updates.
