THE WEB-BASED EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES STANDARDS & GUIDELINES [EFSG] IS A WORLD-FIRST.
In 2014 the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) delivered an innovative new web-based platform to convert the paper based 1970 ‘s School Facilities Standards (SFS) into a set of responsive modern Educational Facilities Standards & Guidelines (EFSG) to aid in the design and development of modern educational facilities into the future.
NBRS+PARTNERS worked with DEC to develop a web based solution which provided a highly accessible, online set of learner-centred guidelines that set out to aid the design of modern learning environments in NSW schools. The EFSG platform was unprecedented from both a technical and pedagogical perspective and has helped to mark the Departments transition from adhering to a fixed set of design and technical standards to establishing a set of performance based guidelines. The new guidelines present a platform where the design rationale is more transparent and user-friendly, allowing for greater flexibility in design solutions.
Launched in October 2014, the new EFSG, a contemporary and intuitive web based platform has been well received by stakeholders. The core features of the system have been developed to make the relevant pieces of information accessible in an agile platform that is user-focused. Providing the various types of user the ability to navigate through the guidelines with ease thus encouraging a higher level of discourse between educators and planners.
