Deakin University, Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET) focuses on promoting student-centered learning through an environment that brings together the fields of mechanical, civil, electrical and chemical engineering to support Problem-based and Project Oriented Design Based Learning incorporating interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
CADET provides design studios, laboratories and flexible spaces for individual and team work and socialisation characterised by transparency and visual links between spaces and the architectural aesthetic references the engineering and design function with highly resolved detailing and with minimal concealing of building superstructures and infrastructure services.
The impressive steel, concrete and glass structure presents a practical and stunning black and white environment tempered by internal timber features, soft furnishings and plenty of natural light. CADET is commended for its innovative approach for integrating the fields of engineering to better meet school and industry needs.
