The conference addressed the urgent need for cities to adapt and evolve in response to a rapidly changing world, where traditional modes of education are being challenged by technological advancements and evolving societal needs. "re:Activate" provided a platform for stakeholders to share best practices, exchange ideas, and collaborate on innovative strategies to build a thriving city of learning.
One of the key themes that emerged during the conference was the importance of lifelong learning. Speakers and panellists emphasised that learning is no longer limited to formal educational institutions but extends throughout a person's life. Lifelong learning empowers individuals to adapt to new technologies, acquire new skills, and stay competitive in the workforce.
Another significant topic of discussion was the integration of technology and learning. The conference highlighted the potential of digital tools, virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence to enhance the learning experience. Participants explored ways to leverage technology to personalise learning, provide access to quality education, and bridge the digital divide.
The conference showcased inspiring projects and initiatives from around the world that are already making a positive impact in their communities. These included community-based learning centres, maker spaces, online learning platforms, and innovative programs that promote collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
Furthermore, policymakers and city representatives shared their insights on creating an enabling environment for a city of learning. They discussed strategies for fostering partnerships between educational institutions, local businesses, non-profits, and government agencies to create a holistic ecosystem that supports lifelong learning.
The conference also provided ample networking opportunities for participants to connect and collaborate. Attendees were able to forge new partnerships, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations that will help drive the vision of a city of learning forward.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to all the nominees who entered the 2023 Learning Environments Australasia Design (LEAD) Awards for their remarkable contributions to educational design.
