Save the dates – LEaRN International Research Symposium and Transitions Think Tank – 2 & 3 June, Melbourne
08 Jan 2017
Teachers are increasingly being asked to move from traditional classrooms to what are being called innovative learning environments (ILEs). These spaces, characterised as having a diversity of highly flexible spaces, purpose-built furniture, and ubiquitous ICT, arguably present opportunities for teaching not previously possible.
How well are teachers making this transition? Are these spaces facilitating any improvement inteaching practices? What evidence exists that these spaces are improving student experiences and learning? What is needed to help teachers better utilise space as one of their pedagogic tools?
Now into its fourth year, the International LEaRN Graduate Research Symposium recognises that graduate and early researchers bring a wealth of practical experience and new thinking to issues such as this. Beginning, established, or recently completed higher-degree researchers (Masters and PhD level, or equivalent) are invited to submit abstracts for one of the three events scheduled above. TRANSITIONS, open to the public, will hear presentations by graduate and early researchers interspersed with discussions led by leading international researchers in this field.

TRANSITIONS INDUSTRY THINK-TANK
Industries and academia are (largely independently) pursing high quality research regarding innovative learning environments. The possibility exists that these two groups are not maximizing the mutual benefits of their activities.
A suite of three half-day think tanks in Australia, Europe and the USA, sponsored by ILETC , Ecophon and Steelcase, willuse discussions raised at the preceding Transitions Symposia to explore how industry and academic research can build increased knowledge and product development capacity through greater collaboration in research.
Saturday 3rd June 2017 - Melbourne, Australia
Friday 8th September 2017 - London, England
Friday 15th September 2017 - Michigan, USA
