St John Paul II College Tour & “Most Likely To Succeed” Screening

The newly created ACT Chapter had its first event of 2016 on the evening of Thursday 19 May - a tour of St John Paul II College in Gungahlin and a screening of the documentary feature film "Most Likely To Succeed".

Principal of St John Paul II College, Ms Catherine Rey, led the group on a tour of the College. In 2013, St John Paul II College opened its doors to its first cohort of Year 7 students. Three years on, the College is a flourishing school community in the heart of Canberra’s fastest growing region.

The film screening was held in the College Performing Arts Centre and Theatre which won an ACT Architectural Award in 2015; a perfect space for viewing the highly renowned film.

The documentary focuses on the story of a school in San Diego – High Tech High- that is completely rethinking what the experience of going to school looks like. As the audience follow students, parents and teachers through a truly unorthodox school experience, the audience was forced to consider what sort of educational environment is most likely to succeed in the 21st century.

Following the screening attendees enjoyed some light refreshments while reflecting on the provocations presented in the film and asking each other relevant questions about what our response is and should be to the changing nature of education in the 21st Century.

The ACT Chapter is planning a second screening of the film in the near future as well as other social and professional networking events.
