On Thursday night 10th November 2022, the LEQ Chapter celebrated their Chapter Awards for Excellence in Educational Facility Design program. Congratulations to all the winners and commended project(s). This year’s Chapter Awards was held as a combined site tour and showcase event. Members were treated to a tour of The Potter Building at All Hallows as an Adaptive Re-Use Project for the school. It was a wonderful comminating even with a special mention to all entrants for sharing your projects with us.
With the aim of the Awards acknowledging exceptional learning environments where innovative architecture meets advanced educational philosophy and supports transformational change in learning and teaching practice. Equally important with the building is the consultation and review with stakeholders throughout the design of these environments that enables truly remarkable transformation with a contemporary learning space. This year Queensland is recognising outstanding projects across five categories.
The overall Winner of the Queensland Chapter Awards was Genesis Christian College Primary Learning Village and Concept by McLellan Bush Architects in collaboration with Genesis Christian College.
In their citation, reference by the architect was made to the “extension and reconstruction of the building’s corners which has allowed the insertion of flexible learning areas and withdrawal spaces which support the adjacent general learning areas”. In identifying the impact of the end user on the building particular reference was given to the “…combination of spaces, all visually connected with generous glazing, offers a spectrum of settings to support the current and future needs of the school”.
