2023 Regional Day Out – CANBERRA
19 May 2023
How do our cities and surrounds create opportunities for deep, authentic, life-long learning?
What are the unique experiences that can only be found in our national capital, with its complex blend of indigenous history, world class education facilities and nationally significant institutions?
We invite you to join us in Canberra on 22 September 2023 to explore the interwoven layers of learning within our city.
Visit the 2023 Regional Day Out website
We will learn about the significance of Canberra as a traditional indigenous meeting place and hear about ANU’s journey to create a vibrant city hub that connects to Country, people, and place. We will also delve into the complex issue of designing inclusive learning environments that tell an authentic story of the land on which they stand.
The day will also be spent exploring our schools and Universities. We will visit a range of sites, including the ACT’s newest Junior School, newest Senior School, and the award-winning Birch Building at the Australian National University. These buildings showcase approaches to teaching and learning that embrace contemporary pedagogies and practice, and are underpinned by principles of wellbeing, inclusion, and community.
Site visits then continue to explore our national institutions. Tours will focus on the development of exhibitions by institutions as tools for learning, the physical learning spaces created within these well-known buildings, and the ways in which digital tools have enabled institutions to reach those that are not physically based in Canberra. While we will of course be able to enjoy the what, we are equally interested in why and how our national institutions engage with learning.
We welcome you to Canberra and hope to open your eyes to the amazing learning opportunities that lie in the fabric of all our cities.
