LEA Site Tour Celebrates Adaptive Reuse at Reddam House North Shore
On 15 July 2025, Learning Environments Australasia hosted an inspiring tour of the newly completed Reddam House North Shore, a K–12 campus that exemplifies the transformative power of adaptive reuse in educational architecture.
Designed by AJC Architects, constructed by BUILT, and delivered by Inspired Education, the project reimagines the iconic Harry Seidler-designed Simsmetal House into a vibrant learning environment for over 1,500 students.
LEA members and guests toured the campus’s dynamic learning spaces, which blend historical integrity with contemporary design and show how heritage buildings can be reinterpreted to meet the evolving needs of education. The tour offered LEA members a first hand look at how thoughtful design can foster creativity, connection, and community within a school setting.
Some of the highlights of the tour included:
- Panoramic rooftop transformation: A once service-focused rooftop now serves as a social hub with sweeping views of Sydney Harbour.
- Reimagined heritage stair: A sculptural centrepiece that honours the building’s legacy while enhancing circulation.
- Cutting-edge science and design technology labs
- Acoustically tuned music studios
- Multiple libraries and flexible breakout zones
- Adaptable classroom configurations that support diverse pedagogical approaches
Reddam House North Shore has garnered widespread recognition across the architectural and educational sectors reflecting the project’s commitment to heritage preservation, community impact, and educational excellence.
