Project Overview
The increasing focus on digital learning and research has highlighted the changing needs of the school community. The Mordialloc College Resource Hub caters in a contemporary way to the needs of the 21 century learner.
Flexible open spaces link IT rich environments within the space. The accommodation of hard copy resources has been reduced and more opportunity has been allowed for digital information and computer based learning.
Small group study spaces are provided for focused study groups and larger spaces are planned with study nooks and distinct zones for group learning activities.
A separate tiered presentation space, with blackout capacity has been provided in a recycled building for a variety of presentation style activities. This space is utilised by the whole school and broader community.
The traditional library workroom has been re-invented in the new Resource Hub. An Ask Desk is central to the space, for all resource enquiries. The Ask Desk is supported by the IT Shop and Workroom. This provides a centre for IT student support, servicing laptop enquiries and issues and re-imaging computers.
The new facility has been planned to provide support and resources for all learning throughout the school. No longer is a resource centre just about books. Reading and research material is now equally available to students in hard copy and digitally.
Unashamedly modern, the new extension pays respect to its heritage neighbour, through sympathetic reference to materials, scale and proportion, in a contemporary design solution.
Old and new spaces are linked internally with a bold ribbon of pink that travels through the surfaces from carpet at the entry foyer to joinery and wall finishes uniting the spaces. This technique has allowed disparate spaces to be tied seamlessly together to read internally as one.
A palate of bright interiors inform the building users that this space is different. Strong colours and graphics create a vibrant hub for research and learning activity within the new Resource Hub
The Mordialloc Resource Hub reinforces the link between buildngs and pedagogy at the school.
