Project Overview

St John Paul II College is a new co-educational Catholic secondary school in Gungahlin, Canberra, with capacity for 1,200 students.  The school has been built over 3 stages with the final stage completed in January 2016.  Stage 1 comprises general purpose learning areas, a resource centre, gym/hall, trade training centre kitchen, chapel, staff room, meeting rooms and administration.  Stage 2 is a performing arts centre that provides high level, multi-function theatre space for up to 720 people, multiple flexible classroom spaces for music, drama and dance and a separate public entry space.  Stage 3 comprises a technology and applied science centre including a 3D printing and robotics techlab along with art, ceramic and woodworking studios.  The design of the school follows the briefing mantra of ‘learning everywhere and anywhere’.  All of the key school functions are located directly off a circulation path known as ‘the learning street’.
