Project Overview
The creation of a College Homestead transformed the existing facility to create an innovative and contemporary setting for life and learning whilst simultaneously celebrating the important heritage of the school and buildings.
The transformation of the Boarding House at Methodist Ladies College is the result of a collaborative and consultative process undertaken by the College, CODA Studio and the stakeholders connected to this important part of College life.
Through the collaborative early stage planning a return brief and visual document were produced to ensure everyone transparency and communication were maintained. These two tools became the reference documents for the project as it developed and spanned over an 18 month period.
The project achieved two transformational moves. The first was the redesign of bedroom furniture to account for both the change in study habits and the desire for increased privacy. The second was the creation of Family Rooms through the removal of televisions and the addition of fully equipped kitchens.
The scope of the project included every aspect of the Boarding House interior from structural changes, compliance, spatial planning, interior design, loose furniture and artwork selection. In giving every aspect of the project attention a holistic and homely interior has been created in which the girls can enjoy a whole of life learning experience in their “home away from home”.
