Discover the "Smart City" schools at the heart of Melbourne's inner urban regeneration.

On Friday November 16 we're think-tanking and exploring Melbourne's inner urban learning environments during the 6th Regional Day Out. Two schools exemplify the "smart city" outlook driving inner urban learning.

In a rare opportunity, all delegates will tour World Architecture Fair winner, South Melbourne Primary School. This vertical school, the first developed by the State of Victoria, sits at the heart of a densely populated urban community. Over six levels, the facility integrates schooling for 525 primary school students (aged 5 to 12) with an Early Learning Centre for 44 children, child health services, multi-use community spaces, multi-purpose sports courts and public domain/open spaces.

Albert Park Secondary College's Bay St Campus design complements the Year 9 curriculum inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, with a focus on the environment and the arts. The design emphasises the campus' industrial past whilst firmly embracing the learning needs of the future. It even features large tanks of tropical marine life and a resident marine biologist!

Educator Spotlight: Noel Creece

Joining our Educator Q&A Panel will be Noel Creece, inaugural Principal at South Melbourne Primary School. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong history building thriving schools, as well as a passion for helping students and their communities. Noel has worked in a variety of contexts including country, city and international schools, as well as small and large schools. He has served in a variety of settings including low and moderate SES schools.

Noel was most recently Principal at Lara Lake Primary School, where he grew the school of 375 students to almost 700. He also served as Principal in a Victorian-established school in the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah. Noel will share his insights into leading the first vertical school in the Victorian state

Venues

The day begins at 9am at The Pavilion at Melbourne's iconic Arts Centre. Early afternoon site tours will depart to all corners of the city, before converging on South Melbourne Primary School for a tour and networking drinks until 5.30pm.

LEA members are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting at 5.30pm.
