Regional Day Out Workshop & Tour #7: Human Centred Design Consultation for an ‘Arena of Learning’ – Mercy Building, ACU
Designed by ThomsonAdsett, the ACU Mercy Building has been conceived and inspired by human centred design consultation regarding the overall campus and project brief for an ‘Arena of Learning’. Now six months from completion, the $32 million project balances the need for socialisation, focused quiet and silent study, differentiation, support and innovation through the provision of a diversity of learning scales and settings.
Five storeys high and 5000sqm, the Mercy Building will also boast a unique rooftop terrace that will be the highest point in Brisbane, offering spectacular views from the hinterland to the ocean. The workshop details the project's collaborative design journey which embraces the soul of the organisation, site context and need for pedagogically advanced spaces. As well as recent ACU works, the site tour includes virtual reality simulations of the Mercy Building viewed from the relative positions within the construction site.
