How good is my classroom? Island Bay Primary, Wellington
19 Apr 2018
The NZ Chapter held a very well attended event at Island Bay Primary School, Wellington, on 27 March in the school's new Don Jamieson Architecture designed Rimu Block, the most recently completed of their learning studios.
The presentation and discussion focused on the importance of an integrated approach to space and acoustic design to support learning outcomes and worked through the design process followed on this project.
An engaging and well performing space, the outcomes were readily contrasted by visiting the adjacent poorly performing relocatable classroom. The ensuing discussion expanded to considerations of broader environmental performance for learning spaces, acknowledging that resources are always scarce and reflecting that acoustics will always be a high priority.
