JEDI Fireside Chat – Kids Growing Up
13 Jul 2023
JEDI Fireside Chat Series is an initiative designed to gather the voice of our members and promote Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion across our Region.
The series will share the stories of young people and explore how learning environments can support them as well as building awareness of the barriers to engagement they experience.
Following inspirational presentations by the 2023 Mayfield Project team and LEA JEDI Committee at the 21st Annual Regional Conference held in New Zealand, LESA and LEWA Chapters have joined together to present this event.
LEWA Chapter Chair-Elect Chloe Summers, originally from Adelaide and her brother Mike will share Mike’s story of growing up with vision impairment and his experiences through schooling in SA.
The inaugural event in this series will be held from 5pm on Thursday 27 July at Brickworks Design Studio Hindmarsh Square. Brickworks Design Studio have kindly offered their sponsorship for this event, providing a beautiful venue and pre-event networking drinks.
2023 Mayfield Project participant and LEA JEDI Committee member Brychan Asaris will introduce our event and provide an overview of the important work the Mayfield participants are doing to expand awareness of JEDI in learning environments.
From 5:30pm, our current LEA International Director and JEDI Committee member Deb O’Riley will host the Fireside Chat with Mike and Chloe.
In person attendance will be limited to 50 people. The event will be live streamed to share with our co-conveners of this event, LEWA, and the wider Regional audience.
