Learning Environments Speaker Series (LESS) is More
12 Jul 2023
2022 had challenges with organising events and the fragments of covid changing the landscape of how we connect with one-another. Many learnings later and we understand the power of connection, the importance of face-to-face events and need to be present.
We all felt the wave on inspiration from the Adelaide conference in 2022, and then again in 2023 in Christchurch. Learning Environments is such a powerful organisation with the ability to influence many people, especially our future, our learners.
Leon Slattery, our (now) past Chapter Chair, helped us remain calm during the tough times of covid, the cancellation of events, the limits on numbers, the quick thinking and level headed, in the times of constant change. We made it, because of his leadership.
Fast forward to 2023; Where to from here? This life changing event has impacted us all, and now we need to be agile, connect deeper and do better, for all of us. With our new Chapter Chair, Scott Duncan, our board decided unanimously that we needed to go back to grass roots, tell our story of the humble beginnings of Learning Environments, formally, CEFPI and then ask our members ‘what do you want?”.
The Western Australian Chapter kicked off 2023- with a member event: “from little things, big things grow.” Alec O’Connell, Jeff Phillips and Philip Idle, some might call them part of the “originals” put forward a call to action, a challenge and laced it all in the interesting story, of the why we do what we do.
Our members spoke! They told us what they wanted to learn about, what things matter and what boundaries and areas of exploration that they saw would provide all of us with a brighter future. As a result, we are running our “Learning Environments speaker Series [less] is more”. With a teaser, or a taster of a series that could provide us with some snippets on a variety of interesting topics.
Topics; such as spectrums of learning where were hearing from different teaching models, to design out waste and sustainable actions that we can all take part in, to Neuro-diversity, educational brief and the importance of these, to cultural sensitive to design and the how too’s.
This all kicks off in July and runs a session every three weeks! We look forward to what opportunities present themselves!
