LET – Evening Site Visit Success
01 Aug 2024
Members and guests gathered at the new Lady Gowrie Early Learning Centre at Midway Point in the evening of Thursday 25 July 2024.
Enjoying wine and cheese in the delightful setting, folks were warmed by the thoughtfully used natural materials and artworks that feature the input of the local Tasmanian aboriginal community into the representation and naming of the flora and fauna.
The design by Cumulus Studio adaptively reused the former Midway Point kindergarten. The new battened timber acoustic ceiling, timber flooring and joinery all work together to enhance the uncovered original raw concrete blockwork. One end of the building was spectacularly opened-up and gives a wonderful sense of place with stunning water and mountain views.
Centre staff happily report that many of their parents when collecting children at the end of the day remain longer for the ambiance and company. On the night we all did the same.
The Tasmanian Chapter Committee thank Kath Harris, Marketing and Communications Manager for Lady Gowrie Child Care and Andrew Geeves Senior Architect Cumulus Studio for their welcome and support.
