NSW grant winners announced: Small Numbers, Big Thinking

Two primary schools have been awarded $5,000 each under the New South Wales Chapter's grant program, Small Numbers, Big Thinking.

The program was established as part of the Chapter's on-going commitment to support research into the places that enhance learning.

The intent is to provide a small amount of funding to enable a learning environment to implement a change, and then assess and report on the impact of this change.

Submissions were sought from any learning environment. Nineteen were received from a wide range of facilities: early learning through to tertiary; metro and remote and regional; and public, catholic and independent.

The two winners are:

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Tarro for their proposal to install exercise equipment to assist students with sensory processing disorders, poor core strength, and reduced muscle endurance. The general school population will also be able to enjoy the benefits of this improved outdoor active space.

Summer Hill Primary School, for their proposal to improve their BER COLA to create a vibrant and creative learning space. Currently under-utilised due to the nature of the furniture and the lack of imaginative fitout, this space will be transformed through the provision of a vertical garden, student art, and more usable, adaptable furniture.

Both winners will present their findings at a Chapter Event to be held in October, so we look forward to seeing the outcomes of these great projects.
