Qld Site Visit Report: Kurilpa Building – Brisbane State High School
10 May 2016
About 30 members and guests visited State High last month to see the Kurilpa Building. Taking a different approach to previous site visits, a panel discussion preceded the tour of the building. Guests and members heard school Executive Principal Wade Haynes, Architect Graham Legerton and Builder Jonathan Back discuss the project from their different perspectives.
The audience was impressed by the way in which the collaborative approach and good communication provided a solid basis to meet challenges including time constraints, restricted site, ongoing school operations and building decanting, to successfully deliver this project. Of particular interest to the audience was the decision to use pre-cast concrete as a solution that delivered cleanliness, safety, speed of installing services and reduced noise. Following a tour led by school staff and supported by the architects, the group gathered at the building’s Roof Terrace to enjoy some social interaction and soak up the views as the sun set on the cityscape and West End.
The Committee sincerely thanks Brisbane State High School, Thomson Adsett Architects and Broad Constructions for their support and Furnware for their generous sponsorship.About 30 members and guests visited State High last month to see the Kurilpa Building.
