Vale Peter Moeck, 1961 - 2026
It is with great sadness that Learning Environments Australasia (LEA) advises of the passing of our friend and colleague, Peter Moeck, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Peter was a highly respected member of the South Australian Chapter whose passion for learning environments, collaborative design and educational outcomes has left a lasting impact on our organisation and the many communities he served.
Joining the South Australian Chapter in 2012, Peter quickly became an enthusiastic and valued committee member, helping to strengthen the Chapter during its formative years. His passion for community-based design, genuine belief in collaboration between educators and designers, and unwavering commitment to improving learning environments helped shape the Chapter into the thriving community it is today.
Peter brought extensive experience in education design and collaborative engagement, championing the work of LEA through networking, relationship building and the promotion of innovative learning spaces. He was a generous advocate for the profession, with several of his own projects showcased as LEA site tours, inspiring members and conference delegates alike.
A gifted communicator and natural leader, Peter played a significant role in the successful delivery of the 2014 Adelaide Conference, helping to engage stakeholders, build enthusiasm and contribute to one of the Chapter's landmark events. He later served as South Australian Chapter Chair, where his inclusive leadership, engaging personality and ability to bring people together strengthened connections across the education, design and allied professional sectors.
Peter was also an early champion of The Mayfield Project, serving as Chair and later pioneering the role of Mentor. Through his guidance, encouragement and generosity, he helped nurture emerging professionals across Australia and New Zealand, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to benefit future generations.
Only weeks ago, Peter was proudly recognised with LEA Chapter Honours at the 2026 UNLEASH Conference in Perth, where he was joined by his wife, Lucinda, daughters Alex and Ella. The award acknowledged his outstanding and sustained contribution to the South Australian Chapter, our profession and the broader LEA community.
Peter remained actively involved in LEA until the very end, including his valued contribution to the recent South Australian Symposium just weeks ago. His kindness, wisdom, enthusiasm and willingness to support others earned him the respect and friendship of countless members across Australasia.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Peter's wife, Lucinda, daughters Alex and Ella, his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire South Australian Chapter.
Peter's leadership, generosity and passion for bringing educators and designers together to shape better learning environments have left a remarkable legacy that will continue to inspire our community for many years to come.
Vale, Peter.
