WA Chapter P[R]EP STAGE 3 LAUNCH

At their first event of the year, the Chapter officially launched Stage 3 of the p[r]ep research project.

p[r]ep is a LEWA funded research project establishing a community of Postgraduate Researchers, Educators and Practitioners in Western Australia. Stage 3 of the research project seeks expressions of Interest for LEWA participants, offering exciting opportunities for the LEWA community to share experiences, build new knowledge and invest in the future of Learning Environments in WA.

p[r]ep - A community of Postgraduate Researchers, Educators + Practitioners

The overarching objective of this community is to provide support to Learning Environments West Australia LEWA members in contributing to, engaging with, and building on research into learning environments in a West Australian context.

This first and second stages of LEWA p[r]ep grounds future research by establishing the interests and capacity of LEWA for ongoing research. The data collected during these stages acknowledges the areas in which LEWA is building current knowledge about places for learning and identifies those topics members would like to know more about.

STAGE THREE

Up to five research projects will be developed as part of the Master of Philosophy program at University of Notre Dame Australia.

There are three ways to participate and inform the direction of these projects.

• As a research student building new knowledge and learning new skills

LEWA researchers will begin working on their project proposals with the support of the senior researcher and online research training. The researchers will present their proposals at a future research symposium and p[r]ep funding will be used to support publication of research findings as they emerge.

This role could be for you if you have completed a bachelor’s degree, can spend around 15 hrs a week, and are keen to develop your skills and create new knowledge. If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident, tuition fees are automatically offset.

• As employer supporting research and embedding in practice

Organisations can support their employees / colleagues undertaking this research by providing time to research at work. By supplementing the time spent by a researcher outside of formal employment, organisations are investing in the long-term development of employees and contributing to the knowledge and practices of the organisation. The skills and understanding gained can prompt opportunities for new projects and sectors as expertise is promoted to new clients and stakeholders.

• As case study providing data and sharing experiences with researchers

Organisations / schools / practices can share their experiences and provide access to people + places, investing in the long term development of learning environments in WA by building understanding a certain approach or issue in their practices; and showcasing innovation to community and beyond.
