2022 LENZ Award Winners announced
On Wednesday night, the 23rd of November 2022, the LENZ Chapter celebrated its Third Biennial Chapter Awards for Excellence in Educational Facility Design program. Congratulations to all the winners and commended projects. After a tough year, it was great to see the level of support for this year’s Awards and we thank all our entrants for sharing your projects with us.
The aim of the Awards is to celebrate exceptional learning environments where innovative architecture meets and supports advanced educational philosophy. We appreciate the breadth and quality of projects in Aotearoa New Zealand that meet these standards and it was fantastic to see projects entered into four of the eight categories.
The Overall Award winner this year was Edendale Primary School Garden-to-Table by the Ministry of Architecture + Interiors.
In their citation, the jury advised:
“This project is exemplary in repurposing an old facility and some otherwise unpurposed space in the centre of the school to provide students and staff with creative learning spaces in which to engage in the school’s innovative pedagogical approach of combining sustainability, the environment, food awareness and social values. The Edendale Primary School Garden to Table project is a curriculum-based concept embedded in connecting outdoor and indoor areas that provide colourful, flexible and flowing learning spaces to encourage primary-aged children to learn core subjects and life skills whilst getting their hands dirty in the garden and kitchen.
This project reflects the success of planning and consultation in achieving the brief on a small site with a small budget.”
Congratulations to the Ministry of Architecture + Interiors and Edendale Primary School.
