Carlton Learning Precinct – So close and yet so far!
16 Jun 2021
The Victorian Chapter of LEA were so excited for what would have been our first in-person event in over a year to the Carlton Learning Precinct.
The precinct itself is well worth a visit, being the first school in the City of Melbourne to combine early learning, family services, a community hub and a primary school onto a single site. The brief for the project was an innovative and exciting challenge to raise the school’s profile, increase student numbers and relieve the ‘white flight’ enrolment pressure within the broader geographic area. The result is a beautifully designed, community focused renovation that is a testament to all involved parties.
Unfortunately for the Victorian Chapter, as is a familiar story for all Victorians now, we saw the numbers rising and the exposure sites increasing and knew that a lockdown was fast approaching. Although the new restrictions did not come into effect until after the event, for the health and safety of all involved, the Committee and Carlton Primary School made the difficult decision to postpone. We hope to reschedule soon and appreciate the patience and understanding of all those who bought tickets! We would like to extend a big thank you to Law Architects, Carlton Primary School and our sponsors for this event, Woods Furniture, Interface and BlueScope Steel.
Along with the postponed Carlton event, the Victorian Chapter Committee have been planning some exciting virtual events in the coming months. Our next event is on Thursday, 24th June and will look at inclusivity in education beyond the buzz word. This event will feature a panel of leading thinkers in education, design and research on understanding inclusivity and how we can use learning spaces to help support a diversity of needs.
