CEFPI Chair awarded Churchill Fellowship

Congratulations to CEFPI Australasia Chair Mark Trotter who has been awarded a 2013 Churchill Fellowship to follow his interest in education and disengaged youth.  The award will see him travel overseas to develop new architectural initiatives to enhance education facilities for disadvantaged and disengaged youth.

The Trust was formed in honour of Sir Winston Churchill to award Memorial Fellowships with the aim of providing opportunities for Australians to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen field that is not readily available in Australia.

Mark’s award is one of around 100 fellowships that are awarded each year, with each person choosing their own projects which are diverse and innovative, and the result of extra endeavour showing strive for excellence.

Mark intends to visit education facilities in Canada, United States of America, Ireland, Britain, Finland and Singapore.

As humble as ever, Mark says “I hope I can live up to the award and it follows my passion to make a difference for disengaged youth, and to understand education programs and facilities that can support their empowerment.”  Mark proposes to visit a number of exemplar schools around the world to study their facilities, meet with their designers and educators, understand their contexts and critique their success.

Ultimately, Mark hopes his study will have relevance and a positive impact in our Australian context.
