Shape the future of education - submit your abstract for LEA 2025 and lead the conversation on tomorrow's learning spaces!
You are invited to submit your proposal to lead a concurrent presentation at the 23rd Annual LEA Conference, hosted by the Learning Environments Australasia. The two-day conference will be held at Brisbane Convention Centre from Wednesday 7th May - Friday 9 May 2025. The conference is expected to attract 450 delegates and will bring together educators, architects, designers, planners, suppliers and policy makers across Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

- Presenters need to ensure their presentation is strictly limited to 40 minutes or 80 minutes (depending on presentation type).

Conference Theme
The conference theme for 2025 is "3001:A Learning Space Odyssey". The theme revolves around exploring the future of education and learning environments in the face of rapid technological and structural changes. The conference aims to envision a positive future for education by addressing themes such as the integration of AI and smart classrooms, the adaptation of physical spaces to enhance learning, and the impact of climate and community on educational design.
It will bring together diverse voices, including students, educators, designers, and decision-makers, to discuss how to create innovative, flexible, and equitable learning spaces that meet the needs of future students while preserving community and culture. The conference encourages participants to think critically and take actionable steps to shape the learning environments of tomorrow. Through discussions, presentations, and workshops, the conference aims to foster dialogue and action towards a more harmonious and responsible approach to our world and its diverse communities.
Session Overview
The conference will include 40-minute concurrent presentations, including 5-minute Q&A or 80-minute workshops.
Presentation submissions will be assessed on the overarching theme "3001:A Learning Space Odyssey". Abstracts are invited for the following categories. Abstracts are encouraged to align with the overarching theme, however all abstracts that fit into one of the categories below will be considered.
Please indicate on your submission form which category is most relevant to your submission. You can enter your abstract into more than category, so if appropriate please select all that apply.
- Technology – AI, Smart classrooms, blending learning environments
- Social – structural change, community and culture
- Environmental – adaptive reuse, climate change, equitable and flexible spaces
- Pedagogy – Delivery methods, physical spaces to enhance learning
- Queensland vernacular- the way our climate shapes the ways that we design and interact with our physical environment.
The conference will offer provocation and hopes to provide tangible steps individuals can take to make a positive impact or provision for the future. The conference will bring a range of voices (including students, architects and designers, teachers, decision makers, admin and support staff) and priorities together to understand what is important for the future student and their learning outcomes in the next century.
Provocation
- What does education in the future need to look like? In the face of technology and workspaces being constantly reshaped, cost of living changes, impact of climate change and increasing mobility.
- How should we develop in such a period of rapid growth and change whilst addressing sustainability and maintaining a strong connection to climate, people and place?
- How do designers and educators achieve cutting edge design/ best practice while change is constant?
- How do we adapt and reuse existing buildings and spaces to cater for the future of education?
- What are small actionable steps or commitments individuals can take to make an impact?
- What questions can participants ask when designing future learning spaces? Frame some questions they may ask when designing/ consulting to ensure the buildings/ learning spaces hold their value into the future.
- What are students telling us and how can we focus on Children/Students and their voices when envisioning the future of education spaces?
- Whilst embracing innovation how can we maintain community and culture?
Key Criteria
Submissions will be assessed on their:
- Alignment with the conference theme;
- Context within the overall conference program; and
- Relevance and congruity to the session stream program.
Please ensure your abstract can stand alone. It should be understandable without reading a paper or seeing a presentation.
