South Melbourne Primary School announced as a finalist in the James D. MacConnell Award

South Melbourne Primary School has been announced as a finalist in the most prestigious internatonal award for excellence in facility planning: the Association for Learning Environments James D. MacConnell Award.

Designed by Learning Environments Australasia members Hayball, South Melbourne Primary School will compete against two American projects for the honour at the Association for Learning Environments' LearningScapes conference in Chicago, November 1-4.

This is only the second time that an Australasian project has made it to the final round. The previous Australasian finalist - the Caulfield Grammar Learning Project, also by Hayball - went on to win the 2017 James D MacConnell Award.

The James D. MacConnell Award is given to a project that exemplifies the organisation's belief that great schools begin with communication and planning. School facilities recognised in this award program might embody great architecture but their successful components and characteristics are founded in an interactive process that engages multiple stakeholders to create an educational environment that holds purpose and distinction within a community.
